Rob's stupid comments, observations and rantings...

This is my cheesy blog where I will attempt to spew my views of various topics in such a manner as to either piss off everyone or simply bore them to tears. Either way, I hope to vent and express my worthless opinions here, and I look forward to reading your comments, suggestion and insults.

Typical business rules and laws don't apply to the oil industry...

Yea, I'm still as pissed about this whole oil & gas price hike as everyone else, and I'm really getting sick and tired of the oil and gas industries' blatant and blasé practices of constantly jacking the prices of gas and oil for absolutely not reason whatsoever.

Take for example the common business principal of "Supply & Demand". When supply goes down, the demand rises, and so does the prices because there are fewer of these items available on the market and are therefore more valuable. On the flip side, when supply increases and there are more of these items on the market than people are wanting at the moment, the demand and prices drop accordingly. Pretty simple stuff, right? WRONG!!

See, this does NOT apply in the oil and gas industry. Another fine example is ANY given holiday weekend when a large amount of road travel is expected, and there will be a huge, but temporary, increase in the demand for gas. What do they do? They raise he price of gasoline in "anticipation" of increased demand....whether it really happens at all!

But here's the kicker...AFTER the big "demand" increase over a given high-travel holiday, the prices don't go back down to where they were BEFORE the big "demand increase". Hmmmm, why is that? If the demand has gone back down, then so should the price....unless the demand never really changed and they just need the holidays as an excuse to continually raise prices.

In actuality, most "high-travel" holidays don't see an increase of actual road traffic than most average work days. There is just a higher volume of cars on roads that don't normally see such traffic, while other roads that are usually jammed on non-holidays are completely dead because of the lack of "normal" traffic on those roads...it's just a traffic trade off, not a traffic increase.

During the week in a typical city, the inner roads are jammed with people coming and going to offices and delivering supplies and all of your typical work day stuff. But during a holiday, almost any given major holiday, most of your non-critical businesses are closed, so there won't be the normal traffic in the areas of those businesses.

Vice versa, most sections of rural freeways and highways are pretty dead during your average work week because most folks are in town or doing their usual work traffic driving. However, on a holiday, most people take the holiday off, and instead of driving their normal patterns, they now leave the cities or their homes and businesses and travel elsewhere. But in the end, it's a pretty nominal exchange of traffic patterns with almost no real increase of traffic at all.

Even if there was a demand spike, then there would also be an associated demand drop after a given event, which should result in a price drop back to where it was before the demand increase. But for the oil companies and gasoline companies, they do things differently...why? BECAUSE THEY CAN, AND YOU CAN'T STOP THEM!

Where's my water-powered car?!?! I can't wait for the day when I can drive by the gas stations just to flip them all off because I won't need their stinking gas any more! Fortunately, LOTS of other folks are finished with the gas & oil companies and have come up with alternative automotive power solutions that you can adapt to almost any car. Take a look at some of these sites:

http://www.waterpoweredcar.com/

Let's hear it for California's new smoking law!

Once again, California is ahead of the curve in their forward-thinking, environment-loving, citizen-concerned actions regarding the health of everyone in their state. I unfortunately live in the land that time forgot, Georgia, where change moves at a snail's pace (if you're lucky), and human rights, and certainly health, take a back seat to anything that doesn't make the politicians more money.

So, what have they done now out there in the great state of over-inflated movie stars and french fry-powered cars? They have now pass a new law that prohibits smoking in ANY public place! Yep, you read that right...ANY PUBLIC PLACE. That means sidewalks, beaches, public streets, the front OR back of stores and restuarants, and any place that a smoker might be seen or where their revolting smoke might offend anyone.

Georgia "recently" banned smoking in restaurants and bars, but you gotta love the idea of banning smoking almost everywhere except in the smoke-filled comfort of your own tar stained home.

Now, I know that all you civil rights people are frothing at the mouth to sink your nicotine stained teeth into this new law in hopes of dashing it out like an old blunt, but really, the only folks who should be worked up over this new law are the cigarette makers and sellers.

As if it wasn't hard enough already to convince people that sucking on a small portable muffler and stinking like last weeks rancid garbage is cool, now the young and impressionable minds who you have been working so hard to deceive can't even partake your cancerous rot sticks even if they want to...unless their parents are "cool" with it in their homes...which ain't too likely for most folks.

Gone are the times when you could smuggle a pack of smokes from your old man only to light 'em up behind the theater (yea, I'm old!). Now, not only will you still get busted by your old man, but you can also receive up to a $500 fine for causing such a stink!

I remember fondly, riding in the back seat of my mother's car as a young child, gasping for air like a fish out of water as my mother calmly puffed away on one ciggy after another. Now, even in the car, you can receive a fine because the mere sight, and of course the eventual offensive smell when you open your car door, can cost you almost as much as a full tank of gas...which ain't too cheap these days either!

So, great job California for taking these offensive stink sticks off the streets and restricting them to the only place where they should be allowed - the smoke filled dens of future cancer suffers.

If only my mother had been as desuaded from smoking, and limited in where she could use those things, maybe she never would have died from pancreatic cancer caused from the very thing that California is trying to ban. You go Governator!!

This Up-tight Thumper Nation is out of control!

Unless you're living in a cave or under a rock (in which case, you probably wouldn't be reading this!), you have no doubt heard all the hub-bub about the "racey" pictures of Miley Cirrus that were recently taken by a Vanity Fair photographer. Well, I say that the rediculously religous people of this country are completely out of control and proving their extremism once again.

Tell me if these photos are "racey":

If you say Yes, then you're just a moron...

Like anything else, you can make these pictures whatever you want them to be, but they are certainly not crude, racey, vulgar, or even remotely sexy. Americans just need to lighten up a bit and not get so bent out of shape every time see a flash of skin, which in this case is only the top half of the back of a young girl.

Who cares?!? And why is everyone picking on this poor girl? I'll tell you why...because nobody likes to see other people succeed, especially if they are truly wholesum, ethical and all-around good people. Noooo, they all wanna see some trashy skanks making fools of themselves like Brittany Spears or Paris Hilton. And everyone is just too freakin' obsessed with finding the flaws in others that they just can't accept the fact that there just might REALLY be some (although few!) decent people left in this world.

So, they take any chance they get, and blow everything completely out of proportion if it means the opportunity to discredit somebody and to maybe make them look bad. How pathetic is that?

Noctice this only happens in America where everyone's too star-struck and Hollywood-obsessed? This sort of thing never happens in Europe or any other country because they are already aware that we all have flaws, and don't need to focus any extra time, energy or effort into making somebody look bad.

On top of that, the rest of the world seems to have discovered that we all have skin and various body parts, and that's it's really not a big deal if you see somebody's upper back or somebody wrapped in a towel. (God help you if you have breasts in this country!!!)

In fact, I'd be willing to bet that Miley Cirrus and every other young girl who has not been exploited by the media yet also wraps themselves in a towel occassionally...like every day after showering! And, I'll bet that every young girl might even have some skin on her back!...oooohh! Well that's just scandalous!...young girls with skin and towels! Get the hell over it people!

In the immortal words of Chief Wigham, "There's nothing to see here folks, so move it along."

People, quit making a big deal out of stupid things like this and start paying attention to things in the real world that DO matter...there's a WAR going on! People are dieing needlessly EVERY day! People are starving! Possibly 100,000 people may have just parrished in a Cyclone in Mayanmar! The US dollar is in the crapper! Gas prices are almost $4 a gallon! George Freaking Bush is STILL in charge!, etc. etc. etc.....

See, there are better things to focus our time and energy on than trying to find a flaw, or create one, just because a young, wholesome, female entertainer shows a little bit of the top of her back. I guarantee that every person reading this rant is less wholesome and pure of heart and action than Miley Cirrus, so "those who live in glass houses..."

I've said it before, and I'll say it again!

I know I just recently made a comment on loud children in public places unsupervised by their lousy parents, but it just seems to keep happening!

There's an absolute epidemic in this country where too many parents are lacking in their parental obligations...and it's gettng worse daily!

Just because you had sex and created a child DOES NOT make you a good parent. It takes constant effort, trail and error as well as lessons learned from others, and it's not easy...nobody ever said it would be. But as a parent, you are still required to give it at least a LITTLE effort! You owe it to your children and you owe it to society.

For example, if you can't take your child to a restaurant because he/she doesn't know how to behave, you don't avoid going to restaurants, you instead need to teach your children to behave. They will never learn what they are supposed to do until you tell them, show them and even punish them for their behovior. It's not a sin, and it doesn't make you a "bad parent" if you happen to enforce some rules and behavior! Believe it or not, your kids will actuallu appreciate it later in life and may even go so far as to thank you for being a good parent.

So, you and your mate created a kid or two; good for you. Now it's time for you to get to work and do something with them. Shut off your computer and quit reading this rubbish, and go spend time with your kid(s)...it's literally the very least you can do for them!

Those darn Mall Walkers!

So I'm walking through the mall on a rainy weekend with the girls, cruisin' from store to store...minding my own business, and making good time, when all of a sudden, "WHAM!". Everything comes to a screeching halt....Mall Walkers...

You've seen 'em, we all have. The old geezers who think that the mall is their own personal gym, and they come out practically every day to walk the entire perimeter of the inside of the mall...over and over and over and over...

Where do these people live? Where do they come from? Why do they move so slowly? Why don't they go HOME?!? And why are they ALWAYS in front of me?!?!?

Now don't get me wrong, I lover to see the old folks, and anyone else for that matter, out excersizing, but why must they block the entire flow of mall traffic with their ultra-slow shuffle, shuffle, shuffle while the rest of us are trying to move through the mall at a reasonable pace.

I see nothing wrong with the walking the OUTSIDE of the mall's perimeter. That way they would get lots of fresh air, maybe even walk father, and they would be out of the way of grumpy schmucks like me? ANyone else ever bothered by all this, or is it just me again?

Freaks, Pervos and Degenerates...

You ever been to the public pool and seen that one creepy old guy sitting back in the corner checking out the little kids just a little too much? You know, the town perv with a towel over his lap, and that glazed look of perversion...well I think they should all be dipped in acid, thrown into a tree shredder and burned like last fall's leaves!

O.k...maybe that's a bit too harsh (or is it?). But I have absolutely no sympathy for these degenerates of society at all, and I wish there was something we could do about it. We need to find another island like Australia (although smaller and much less comfortable) to send all these people to so they can waste away far from the rest of civilized society.

The reason I'm so worked up about this is that we recently found out that the father of one of my daughter's friends happens to be one of these sick-ass freaks! To make it worse, his wife is covering for him, and has no intention of turning him in, even though his computer is chock foll of kiddie porn, and he has confessed to no more than 2 seperate occassions where he has had sexual encounters with a minor while he was married (we don't know the actual ages, but does it really matter).

So what are we as a society supposed to do with this kind of information? Storm his house with torches & pitchforks? Hire a team of mercinaries to make him disappear? Hire the mob to "send him on a little vacation", or what?

There could be a VERY long discussion about what is causing the increase in devient behavior in our society, but I think that a more appropriate and immediate conversation needs to be "what do we do with these people"...both as punishment for the guilty and as a deterent for those considering such crimes.

Our precious children are our future, plain and simple. If we allow these kinds of sickos to harm our future, what will become of us all? It's our responsibility as a society to step in and remove the cancers that threaten our very existence.
